What is Illegal?

The autumn hunting season is open between the 1^st September and 31^st January. 41 species of bird may be legally hunted- shooting at any other bird is illegal.

Hunting at sea is permitted from the 1^st October till 31^st January.

The following is illegal during the hunting season:

Hunting after 15:00 on weekdays between the 15^th and 30^th September,
Hunting after 13:00 on a Sunday and public holidays,
Hunting inside a Bird Sanctuary (e.g. Buskett, Salina),
Hunting within 50 meters of a main road,
Hunting within 200 meters of a residential area,
Hunting using boats capable of exceeding 18kph,
Hunting at sea within 3km of the shoreline.
