Tours of the EU LIFE Yelkouan Shearwater project site

Wildlife and nature lovers have the opportunity to visit a unique site on the island of Malta. BirdLife Malta offers free guided tours around the area known as l-iRdum Tal Madonna (l-Ahrax tal-Mellieha) where the EU LIFE Yelkouan Shearwater Project is based.

Malta has around 1,500 pairs of Yelkouan Shearwater, approximately a staggering 10% of the world's population. Around 500 pairs of this seabird breed inside burrows along the cliffs of the project site. The visit offers an opportunity to find out more about the birds’ behaviour, such as how deep they dive, where they go to feed, and how they survive by drinking seawater!

The tour lasts around one hour and consists of a walk around the area with occasional stops during which the project will be explained in detail. For more information on how to book a tour, please write to matthew.borgcardona@birdlifemalta.org or call on 21-347644/5.
