Habitat destroyed at trapping sites in the Important Bird Area

BirdLife Malta today revealed that its field workers recorded last weekend that large tracts of land in one of the Important Bird Area at the north of Dwejra in Gozo were burnt to clear vegetation for the trapping sites in the ecologically sensitive area.

FKNK demands more derogations from the Birds Directive

Prior to the Maltese Ornis Committee meeting next Thursday, BirdLife Malta issued a position paper criticizing the recent set of demands regarding the autumn hunting and trapping seasons put forward by the FKNK. BirdLife warned that these FKNK demands require at least 4 new derogations from the EU Birds Directive and may result in the European Commission opening more infringement procedures against Malta.

School children air environmental concerns to Minister during Dinja Wahda activity

Eighteen school children today addressed the Minister for Resources and Rural Affairs to air their concerns about the environment during a Children's Hearing held at the Pope John Paul II Centre in Attard as part of an activity within the Dinja Wahda programme run by BirdLife Malta and its Education Partner the Bank of Valletta.
